Here is the work of an Italian author, recently published in translation, that claims Michelangelo indeed solely painted the Sistine Chapel. Besides this account, equally reputable as other published authors on the subject, Nardini uniquely accounts for loves experienced and lost by Michelangelo: Tommaso de'Cavalieri, Vittoria Colonna, sculpture, painting, and architecture. This book is widely sold throughout Italy, in every imaginable museum. Italians certainly benefit from such a herculean rendering of Michelangelo's accomplishments, but the lack of source annotations are more suspicious in determining the validity of this biography. It's an easy and short read. The timeline and art locator are especially favored features of this book.

The book's greatest feature is it's ability to personalize Michelangelo's relationships with the many popes who reigned during his lifetime. Better than any other narrative, Nardini's brings the genius and brooding, lonely personality of Michelangelo to the forefront of the reader's attention.

El problema principal es Jan 11, Dora rated it it was ok Shelves: novels. Though the book gives a solid account of Michelangelo's life, I would call it a "light read". In some cases, this is a positive thing, though when it comes to biographies, I expect a bit more. By "light read", I mean that the book seemed to shift between biography and art history novel.
I still can't make up my mind on what it actually is. The historical details of the book, though quite accurate, seem to drag on in some places not in terms of longevity, but in terms of writing sty Though the book gives a solid account of Michelangelo's life, I would call it a "light read". The historical details of the book, though quite accurate, seem to drag on in some places not in terms of longevity, but in terms of writing style. However, I would say that the emotional descriptions of Michelangelo's working process make up for this.

These were actually my favorite parts of the book because they acquaint the reader with his works or the particular work in question in that moment and Michelangelo's mindset, which is extremely important to understand if you want to understand the work. Jul 22, Dana rated it did not like it. I will generously describe this book as being painfully bad.
